Well, trying to find the right words to describe this weekends Ride for Life event is challenging but bear with me.

For me it was all about the coming together of people whom have experienced first hand or been affected by all aspects of the nastiness which is cancer. The stories that were shared along with the tears, it was quite simply overwhelming at times.

All of this was mixed with the energy and drive of everyone present. With ride after ride of pure passion from those both teaching or taking part. Some of our instructors and participants had come from mainland Europe just to be a part of such an awesome event. They did us all proud.

Yes it was a long day, bringing with it a few technical issues, but it was certainly worth it.

We’re not sure just how much we have raised, but calculations to date indicate that it is in excess of £5,000. There are still a few more of the JustGiving pages still open until the end of the month so keep your eyes out for our next update when I will post the final figure.

I would like to say a huge thank you to the following people: Rick Goodchild - for being the brains behind the event; Freedom Leisure - for allowing us access to equipment from a variety of its clubs and for use of Withdean Sports Complex, along with it some truly amazing staff; the 11 Ride Leaders for all they did to help the event and doing it for gratis.

Then, of course, a massive shout out goes out to all those involved, not just those in attendance, but everybody who helped us during the planning stages to those who helped spread the word via their Facebook pages.

Hope to see you at next year’s event.
